                                                                                             January, 2017

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  It is our wish that 2017 will treat each and every one of you with prosperity and best of all, good health.  The White Squirrel Saddle Club is ready to kick this New Year off to a good start; one that will be filled with new ideas, as well as enhancement of the old; and growth in new membership, plus active participation from those who have been a part of our membership for a long time.  Let’s make this that “year to remember.”  Included with this “HoofPrint” is the 2017 membership form.  We look forward to all renewed memberships, and welcome new faces in our midst.

A note from President Al —–

Welcome to 2017!!!  The White Squirrel Saddle Club has already had its first event, the End of the Year Awards banquet at the VFW in Olney.  There were sixty plus members and guests in attendance with all having a good time.  Thanks Pam Reid for organizing the evening.

Officers and board members for 2017 are as follows:  President, Al Zellmer; Vice President, Lloyd Bromeling; Secretary, Laura Lathrop; Treasurer, Sarah Kincaid; Board Members:  Angie Allen, Jeff Lathrop, Arlie Mowrer, Pam Reid and Marti Waggoner.

The horse shows will be held the fourth Sunday of each month from April thru October.  Two barrel racing events – one IBRA and one NBHA; a tractor show, a ranch rodeo, and several other events planned for the arena.

2016 could not have been as successful for the saddle club had not several people just jumped in a helped!  KENNY BANKS!! Hours upon hours spent on the lawn mower keeping the grounds looking like a park all summer long.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Arlie Mowrer never missed a horse show to work the arena and keep it in tip-top shape so each and every contestant had an equal chance for that blue ribbon.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Pam Reid organized and worked every horse show, even rode the stick horses in Olney to see our sponsors.  THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Laura and Jeff Lathrop – for Jeff working the shows and wherever else he is needed; and Laura, for keeping track of everything in the announcers stand, and for the trips to Benton once a month – THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Cathy Zellmer – chasing the sponsors, keeping in touch with them and getting the advertising signs organized – THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Thank you to last year’s directors and officers for your time spent on behalf of WSSC; and to the directors and officers for their contribution in the upcoming year!!

Also, THANK YOU to the membership for coming and supporting the White Squirrel Saddle Club.

We will be working to set calendar dates at the next meeting.  If you have an event that needs to get on the calendar, please come to make sure it is included.  As you all know, we must plan around the set schedule, which we have, of the Olney Gun Club as they use the firing range.

There will be fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy at the next meeting, all furnished by the show committee.  Please come, eat, enjoy and take part in the meeting!!!

Also, don’t forget our annual fundraiser at the VFW, Saturday, February 18.  HOT ROD LINCOLN, steak and fun – what more do you need for a February Saturday night???

See you there!

Crazyhorse 4-H had their January meeting on Sunday, the 7th.  Five members were present.  Our organizational meeting was held in December with officers elected, goals listed, and a new calendar set; all were voted on and accepted.

Club members rang the bell for the Salvation Army and worked the bucket brigade for the City of Olney Christmas Lights Display in December.  A continuous stream of vehicles came thru the park with so many commenting on how much they loved the lights!

Our 2017 calendar includes valentines for patients at RMH, 3rd floor; visiting the animal shelter, field trip to Skyzone in Evansville in March; IGA cookout, Saturday, April 22; donating to Gaitway to Motion; practice in the arena before the fair; work the lemonade stand, Saturday, July 15; compete at the fair horse show and in all other categories available to members; have another Fall Fun Day and cookout!  Crazyhorse is always looking for new members to join us.
