October 2016 Hoofprint

hoofprint-al-logo   A note from President Al —

Activities at the East Fork Arena are winding down, but that does not mean we are finished for the year.  Left is one horse show the 23rd of October and a 4-H Fun Day on the 16th.  AND, we have HOT ROD LINCOLN at the VFW for a Halloween Party on the 29th.

There has already been some discussion about next year’s events, and we hope to have a great year in 2017!!

It is anticipated that our 2017 efforts for Gaitway to Motion will grow to include more riders and more horses with an added push for more volunteers.

In the background, we are considering the hows and what’s needed to put a roof over the arena.  Special meetings will be held to discuss the project.  So, if you are interested in helping, please contact me.

Our IBRA event was well attended and gave us something to work from for next year.  The NBHA event had to be cancelled due to the weather.

On November 10, 6:00 p.m., we will have our Gaitway to Motion year end party and WSSC meeting with election of officers all in one.  The meat will be fixed by the VFW with the rest being carried in from members.  More to come on this event.

Thanks to all who help with each and every event!!!

HOT ROD LINCOLN is coming back to the VFW on Saturday, October 29, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.  A Halloween Costume Party with prizes for the best dressed female, male and couple; a very entertaining evening to say the least.  $5.00 per person or $10 per couple will get you in the door.  So set aside the date on your calendar, come to the VFW and lend your support to the White Squirrel Saddle Club.  AND most of all, have a most enjoyable evening with friends and a great band.

Gaitway to Motion has completed another year providing fun-filled Tuesday evenings for approximately twenty children.  Volunteers felt very privileged to get to know and share time with these amazing kids.  And, we look forward to Spring, 2017!!!  Volunteers are always needed; won’t you consider spending a few hours a week with us??

hoofprint-trail      ENDURING LINDA:   As we enter fall, the endurance season is winding down.  Riders are trying to earn the most points toward the end of the year which sometimes means traveling further away from home.  In the past, we have traveled the long way to Minnesota just to get those extra points; all this just for recognition and sometimes a small award.

In the 2000 season, I was one of those traveling in search of points.  I had never gotten a Top Ten Award, and I was in the running.  That meant attending rides I had never been to before and riding more miles that I was used to.

Somehow, it ended up that I was tied with a good friend also named “Linda” for last place in the Top Ten.  I had to participate in the Point Chaser ride which, at the time, was the last one of the season.  The Point Chaser was in Northern Minnesota which was a long drive, especially by myself.  Luckily my friend, Lori, also needed more points, so she invited me to accompany her to Minnesota.  However, Lori lived in Princeton, Illinois, and I had to get to her house with my horse, and then leave from there to the ride.  Problem being Aaron could not go and I had never pulled the trailer that far by myself.   I, nevertheless, HAD to make this trip.  I made the long trip to Lori’s (had a flat tire when I got there), loaded into her trailer and went on to Point Chaser.  It was a long hard drive—about 10 hours.  However, we both did ride and finished.

Long story short, I got to the event but my competitor chose not to go, so I did not have to ride after all.   But because I had taken the trouble and expense to get there, I was going to participate.

I received my Top Ten Award and believe Lori got first place overall.  This was my first, and to this point, my only Top Ten award.  But, I would do it again if I had the chance.

TRAIL – Only two scheduled trail rides left in this 2016 trail riding season:  (1) Gary Gaither plans a trail ride, hay ride and wiener roast on October 22, and (2) the last ride — East Fork Arena and Trails.  Come, join us and help make these last two rides “just a whole bunch of fun!”

SHOW/SPEED EVENTS COMMITTEE:   The next horse show is Sunday, October 23, 1:00 p.m., East Fork Arena.   This will be the last show of the 2016 season, so come out and participate, or just watch – enjoy the fall weather and some good food from the cook shack.

The NBHA show was cancelled due to a very wet arena.  Next year will be dryer – we hope.
